Kristīne Beitika

This photograph was taken at Las Cárcavas, a striking landscape in the Spanish region of Castilla y León. Shaped by running water and the gradual movement of the earth, the terrain has an almost Martian appearance.

We shot at sunset, using the sun as our main light and a flash for fill. Kristīne Beitika is an internationally acclaimed flautist of exceptional talent and artistry, versatile in a wide range of musical ensembles—and, as this session proved, also perfectly willing to explore one of the country’s most remote landscapes for a photoshoot!
